part of Media Day for the 2004 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Dan
Davis, director of Ford Racing Technology, announces to the
international array of motorsports journalists that famed Champ Car
stars will climb into Ford Focus Midgets to pit their noted
racing skills in these quick, twitchy race cars against the best, local
Ford Focus Midget regulars. Race fans will see 25 laps of
heart-pounding race action as these talented drivers bring their open
wheel skills to the Irwindale short track. The event takes place as
part of a preliminary race for the 2nd Annual Mopar Twin 25’s
Irwindale, Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Irwindale Speedway, Irwindale,
California. Davis made the announcement in a crowded press conference
at the Long Beach Westin Hotel, along with the three drivers. Davis
explained that the Ford Focus Midgets provided an affordable, fun,
entry-level opportunity for up-and-coming drivers. He said the Ford
Focus midgets have generated several regional series across the
country, and is “probably the fastest growing grassroots series
in the U.S." |
